If your beloved pet (cat, dog, ferret) experiences serious stress during the trip, you can use sedatives.
These drugs are divided into synthetic potent (mostly artificially created chemical compounds) and herbal (based on herbs, essential oils of plants).
Also, sedatives are divided into course (taken according to the instructions for several days or weeks and, gradually accumulating in the animal's body, gently calm it) and single action (usually given shortly before a stressful situation, do not accumulate, and almost immediately excreted from the animal's body).
There is no need to be afraid: such drugs are not habit forming and do not cause any addiction. For a more specific selection of a sedative that will suit your pet, you should consult a veterinarian.
When going on a trip, you need to collect a small first aid kit for your pet, so that, in case of factors that cause health problems, you can quickly help your pet
It is mainly recommended to include veterinary drugs there:
antiseptic and wound healing (ointments, suspensions);
bandaging materials (gauze swabs, bandages);
tools (syringes, scissors, tweezers, thermometer, "tick remover");
preventive products (for eyes, ears, mouth, wipes, protective wax-based paste for paw pads, will help not only in winter in frost, but also in summer as protection against mechanical damage and the risk of burns from chemical compounds on the asphalt, floor);
potent drugs (only in emergency cases and only according to the instructions);
means for the gastrointestinal tract (sorbents, pre- and probiotics);
antiparasitic drugs (sprays, flea and tick treatments);
additional items: diapers, wet wipes.
If your pet has health problems, take it to the veterinary clinic as soon as possible, because any uncontrolled self-treatment can cause irreversible damage to the pet's health!
Also take with you on your trip:
1. First of all, good mood and positive emotions, because animals read the mood of the owner very well, and if you are sad, then your pet will be sad.
If you travel by car, then accustom your pet to it in advance to exclude the negative effects on the body of motion sickness and high noise levels that accompany travel.
The same applies to trains/planes, it is better to socialize your pet in noisy places with a lot of strangers, animals and foreign smells.
2. Be sure to take treats and reward your pet for good behavior and obedience during the trip.
3. Also, a favorite toy on the road will not be superfluous, because our tailed friends, like children, only on four legs.
4. Do not forget about the travel bowl and drinking bowl (silicone ones are good - they are easy to clean and hard to break).
5. It is better to take the food that is your favorite, or the same brand, but wet (conveniently packaged, well preserves its properties, dosed strictly according to the type and weight of the pet).
It is necessary for safe transportation of pets during travel:
For small breeds of dogs and cats, a rigid carrier is suitable (does not restrict the movement of the pet), then the carrier is attached to the back seat with a special belt.
Larger dogs can be transported by fastening to the car seat belt. People who fear for the upholstery of the car and its damage by the pet can use specially designed hammocks for animals in the back seat.
In addition to the above actions, when going on the road, do not forget to check the availability of documents for your pet (veterinary passport), the availability of annual vaccinations, including specific ones, as well as marks on the treatment and disease prevention measures.
