The woman mysteriously disappeared Jan. 27 and her body was found in February, but there are still many questions about what led to the woman's death.

Nicola Bulley, her partner and two children lived in the small town of St. Michaels-on-Wyre in northwest England. The woman was a mortgage counselor.

On Jan. 27, she drove her two daughters to school and then went for a walk with her dog along the Wyre River. The woman texted her supervisor from her cell phone and plugged in a mobile app for a meeting with coworkers.

The woman was last seen at 9:10 a.m., and by 9:30 a.m. her phone was found on the riverbank with the online meeting app on, with her dog running nearby. The woman was not there.

Police were called to the scene; they found no signs that the woman might have struggled. A theory then emerged that the victim may have been in the river. Detectives were even called to the scene, who used special equipment to check the bottom of the body of water.

The incident became very high-profile in Britain, so amateur detectives and bloggers began to go to the town of St. Michael's to conduct their own investigations, which hindered the police.

Law enforcers were also caught up in the scandal because of a statement about the missing woman's personal problems. Police, to justify themselves, said that Nicola was in a state of "vulnerability" due to early menopause, which caused her to have problems with alcohol and, consequently, with her behavior. This angered the woman's relatives and the public, as this information did not help the investigation in any way.

In Britain, police reviewed hundreds of hours of surveillance video and questioned nearly 700 car drivers who drove by the river on Jan. 27, but it yielded no results either.

On the morning of Feb. 19, Nicola Bulli's body was discovered by an elderly couple walking their dog. The body was lying in the reeds.

To this day, however, police are still unable to determine what really happened. The case of Nicola's death is being investigated as "unexplained." There were no signs of violence on the body of the deceased.

As for suicide, police and relatives also have doubts because the woman was not depressed and did not leave a suicide note. Police also doubt that it could have been an accident, since the victim's phone was still on the bench and the dog was let off its leash.
