Popular French singer and actress of British origin, Jane Birkin, passed away at her home in Paris.
As reported by the French publication Le Parisien, the 76-year-old film star and style icon was found dead by her caregiver on Sunday, July 16, at around 11 a.m., as reported by Ukr.Media.
The official cause of death has not been disclosed yet, but it is known that Birkin had been battling leukemia since 2002, which she described as a "not very painful cancer."
Two months ago, the celebrity cancelled a series of concerts when her health worsened. Additionally, in 2021, she suffered a stroke.
Jane Birkin gained fame for her roles in films such as "The Swimming Pool" with Alain Delon and Romy Schneider, "If Don Juan Were a Woman," "Slogan," "Blow-Up," and in the adaptations of Agatha Christie's novels "Death on the Nile" and "Evil Under the Sun."
Birkin also recorded over ten music albums. She achieved worldwide fame with the song "Je t'aime... moi non plus," which she performed as a duet with her former partner, actor, and composer Serge Gainsbourg.
In the world of fashion, Jane is known as the muse of the Hermès brand. One of the most popular models of women's handbags, the "Birkin," was created in her honor.
